Privacy Policy

The short version: what your body does stays on your phone. Motion readings are processed on your device as they arrive and immediately discarded; your posture history never leaves it. There is no account and no advertising. The app does send anonymous usage statistics — which screens get opened, which features get used, how long sessions last — so we know what to improve and whether the app is working well. Never your sensor data, and never anything that identifies you.

Motion data

To tell whether you are slouching, DeSlouch reads motion sensors: the accelerometer built into your phone, and — if you choose AirPods mode — the head-orientation data your headphones provide. On iPhone this is why the system asks for Motion & Fitness permission.

These readings are used moment to moment to work out one number: how many degrees forward of your calibrated neutral posture you currently are. That calculation happens entirely on your device. The raw sensor stream is never written to storage and never transmitted anywhere. It exists only in memory, for a fraction of a second, and is then gone.

What is saved on your device

Your settings — detection mode, sensitivity, alert style, quiet hours.
Your calibration baseline: a single reference orientation captured when you tap Calibrate.
Daily totals — upright time, number of slouches, longest streak, sessions — kept for about two months and then discarded automatically.

All of it lives in your app's own local storage. It is included in your device backups (iCloud or Google) only if you have those backups enabled, and those backups are controlled by Apple or Google, not by us. Deleting the app deletes everything; you can also clear your statistics at any time from Settings.

About the background audio

In AirPods mode, iOS only keeps delivering head-motion updates while an audio session is active. DeSlouch therefore plays silence at zero volume in the background so tracking survives your phone locking. We mention it because it is the kind of thing that looks odd if you find it in a permissions list.

DeSlouch never records audio. It has no microphone permission and cannot listen to anything. The audio session is used only to play sound out — the silent keep-alive and, if you turn it on, the alert tone. Background operation is optional and can be switched off in Settings.

Notifications

If you allow them, DeSlouch can post a notification when you have been slouching while the app is in the background. These are created locally on your device. There is no push server and nothing about them leaves your phone.

How we improve the app

So that we can see which parts of DeSlouch are actually useful — and whether it is working reliably — the app sends anonymous usage statistics to our analytics provider, Amplitude, Inc.: which screens get opened, which features and settings get used, how long sessions last and how often the app is used, plus technical information such as device model, OS version and crash or error signals.

None of that includes what the sensors read. No angles, no calibration baselines, no motion data, and no record of when you slouched — session statistics arrive as totals ("a session lasted 40 minutes and caught 5 slouches"), never as a timeline of your posture. There is no name or email address to send, because we never asked for one — an installation is identified only by a randomly generated identifier, so that two visits from one phone are not counted as two different people. These statistics are not linked to your identity and are never used for advertising or cross-app tracking. Amplitude's privacy policy is available at amplitude.com/privacy.

What we do not do

No accounts, no sign-in, no email address collected.
No sensor or posture data leaves your device — the usage statistics described above contain no motion readings and no posture timeline.
No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
No selling or renting of personal data.
No cross-app or cross-site tracking.
No location access, no contacts, no photos, no microphone, no camera.
No health data written to or read from Apple Health or Health Connect.

Purchases

DeSlouch is free. There are no in-app purchases and no subscription, so there is no payment processing and no purchase data associated with you. If that ever changes, this page will be updated before it does.

Your rights

Data-protection law gives you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal data held about you. Your posture data is on your phone, under your control — you delete it by clearing your statistics in Settings or removing the app; we hold no copy of it. The only records that exist outside your phone are the anonymous usage statistics described above, which are not linked to you by name — if you would like those removed as well, write to us and we will do what we can.

Children

DeSlouch is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone — including children — because we do not collect information at all.

DeSlouch is a habit aid, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. If you have back or neck pain, or a diagnosed spinal condition, speak to a qualified healthcare professional.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes. Because we hold no contact details, we cannot notify you individually.
